HOW WE USE COPYWORK

copywork

Copy work simply means the art of copying. Some people believe is a rigid approach to learning, but it is a valid writing model capable of teaching writing and content as well.

Recently, I had to work with some of my pupils on handwriting ,so we used copy work pages from Brighter Child’s Handwriting Printing. The following are some of the other benefits we derived.

  • FIGURE OF SPEECH

We used the alliterative sentences about different animals across our 26 letters of the alphabets to discuss Alliteration and the information about those animals.

  • DRAWING

We learned to draw and color the different animals in their natural habitats using our drawing texts, observing the appropriate landscapes whilst learning some real and fun facts about them.

  • READING AND WRITING

We practiced writing our names daily and reading the sentences. We enjoyed talking about capital letters, sight words and new words. We had dictation and spelling exercises over time with previous copies.

  • COMPOSITION

We created fictional stories and poems using the copy sentences as prompt. The drawing sessions were also very interesting to everyone.
